This is a short but intense story about a theme that's really 'hot' right now: deathly games/hunting people/killing people in TV shows.
This book, or essay to be more exact, could be the origin of these stories, but I'm not going to discuss this matter.
The book is a nice and confronting read, because it's written very simple and to-the-point, there are no drama's and no extreme graphic descriptions of death. The simplicity of this book makes it so disturbing.

I read this in junior high school and thought it was pretty cool then. Now, I start teaching eighth grade English this fall, and I am going to try to use this short story. I wish it was longer, but it couldn’t stand to be much longer based on the story’s premise. The ending is particularly enjoyable. The concept is so haunting and intriguing to fit in such a short story.
Goosie Scale Rating: 4/10
Not crazy stimulating, but the scenes of the main hunt where the hunted was just being toyed with - that got me. Very eerie.
First Sentence Rating: 6/10
"OFF THERE to the right--somewhere--is a large island," said Whitney."
The large island reminds me of the island in King Kong (much smaller of course), shrouded in mist and fog. This whole story is eerie and and this first sentence does it decent justice. Not the most powerful stuff, but a good kickoff.

Amazing book. The only fault is that I wish it was longer! Fantastic!
I had high-hopes that Connell's diddy would be some sort of morality tale of what happens to big-game hunters- cosmic retribution- but no such luck. Still, it is odd, clever, and well-written.
