This was a really good book; it just wasn't a really good penultimate book. This series has a habit of ending installments with major events that have a massive impact on the main character moving forward and then sidelining him in the next book. Completely omitting your main character's POV in the second to last book was... a decision and filling it with the POVs of retreaded conflicts made that decision so much worse. I mean, how many times do we need to hear Perrin tell us he's not a lord, he's been doing that since book 4 and it was just as aggravating then.

I mean... let's finish this. My mind struggles to process this book individually as it's so close to the conclusion. I can only think of it as part of Sanderson's 3-book conclusion to the WoT. It was great. There are still so many loose ends, though, so I know that the finish has to be big to deliver.

Onward.

Compared go the previous book it was much weaker. It is expected. A lot of set up for the final book will take away from the other aspects of a good story. Many things felt underwehlming including the trial and the tower of genjei.
The scene of fighting was promising combining perin and euguene. B.S can write fight scenes and its commendable. He suffers in dialouge. Many of the dialogues felt shallow and weak.
The dark one and the forsaken were a joke in this whole series. They were not clever or scary and really were was the last time they hit a blow to main charecters that will shake them up?apart from Semirhage.
The dark one is non existant. I am not happy with time I invested in these series. They needed to be much shorter books. Less than 8 probabely would be enough.
So lets go for the memory of light.

My husband went away for the weekend so I pulled an all nighter and read this book in 24 hours.

He’s pretty much 90% of my impulse control
