Can anyone tell me if this gets better?

It's really irking me that she rolled up on the places and started welcoming people. Yes, you inherited it but you've never been there! You haven't even walked in the door! So weird.

I spend a lot of time with my cat, he's clingy and I'm not a big fan of people so it works out. However, i don't narrate my actions or intentions and i sure am shit don't tell him to *look at signs* that I've *pointed out and talked to him about.* I understand the need for exposition but holy hell. Police officer drafting the lead is concerned about getting back to get dog after three questions? What? Someone else putting him in a room without taking his leash off? Is this classic "good person, bad person" crap?

Uughghhh....

The first in a new cozy mystery series featuring Maureen and her adorable sidekick Finn (a golden retriever guide dog drop out) who move to Florida when Maureen inherits a haunted bed and breakfast located in a charming small town Florida community.

When Maureen arrives at the Inn for the first time she discovers a dead body and that the house has some friendly ghosts who wish to help her solve the murder. Full of a cast of memorable characters and small town humor, this was an entertaining, light spooky season read. Great on audio as well. While this wasn't my usual type of read, the cute cover sucked me and it was easy to listen to while multitasking around the house.

This book was really good but I guessed who did the murder basically immediately. I felt that the end was rushed, the last 20/30 pages were the ramp-up of who did the murder, the arrest, and the sudden resolve. I felt like the book could've drawn the ending out another 15-20 pages

I liked the concept of Be My Ghost. A woman (Maureen) who has just lost her job inherits a hotel in Florida. It's a no-brainer for her to pack up her life and move down there with her faithful canine companion and work out why a stranger she has no memory of gifts her a hotel complete with an eccentric crew of staff and oh yeah - ghosts. The ghost element of the novel was quite fun. They don't have to haunt the place they passed on in but rather can choose their forever home. And I loved that it's a town secret that everyone knows they exist but deny to any outsiders.

What I didn't love about this book was how longwinded it was. There was too much description in parts and we didn't need to witness many of the conversations had or the entirety of them. I lost count of the number of times someone asked the main character if they could call her by her first name. I feel like the author is a foodie because there was a lot of food talk which was irrelevant to the overall story and felt a little mundane when I just wanted to know more about the ghosts or about the murder. Also with the murder - it took way too long into the novel before Maureen really seemed that concerned or curious about the murder which happened on her own front porch. I wanted some amateur sleuthing but I think I was at 80% into the novel before there was any real talk about who she thought could be the culprit.

Interesting take on a haunted hotel and I did like elements of the story but overall it took too long for anything to happen and I felt like I didn't know the main character as well as I wanted to.
