This book was really good! The plot and pacing was pretty good, the characters were great and turned out to be pretty lovable, even the ones I didn’t like in the first book. I super loved Rhys , especially about halfway through the book. I hated Tamlin , but that was definitely to be expected, and I didn’t really like him in the first book anyways, so I was not surprised or disappointed.
The one thing I did not like was the fated mate thing, because it felt like it took away from the choice and consent of the romance, turning it into a magic thing instead of two people choosing each other. Also, kind of felt like the author used sex scenes as a crutch, as though they would replace actual romance building, which annoyed me. That is the only reason why this book got 4.75 instead of 5 ⭐️.
Definitely worth reading the first book (which is not nearly as good) in order to get to this one.

okay WOW.
any doubts i had after book one were erased with this sequel. so let's get into my thoughts, shall we?
first off, sometimes it's not so fun being proven right. in my review on ACOTAR, i said this about Tamlin -
"i went into this knowing that Feyre will eventually end up with Rhysand, BUT i thought the relationship between Feyre and Tamlin was sweet!! because i've been betrayed before, i'm sure some plot twist will come along and ruin the vibes..."
and we got to the "twist" rather quickly. we find that Feyre and Tamlin are broken pretty badly from Under the Mountain. Feyre has essentially lost her will to live, having been killed by Amarantha and revived by gifts from all seven High Lords and returning as Fae. she is now plagued with nightmares, waking every night and getting sick. Tamlin's solution, with his own brokenness clouding his vision, is to keep Feyre locked safely in the Manor. this brings Feyre to a breaking point.

Much better than the first book! The FMC is growing on me. I love Rhys and still can't stand Tamlin.
