I fell for this series really hard and fast. Shiver was amazing and one of the most moving YA novels I have ever read. But to be honest.. Linger let me down. Kinda. Thinking back, it's not bad per se (most of it is very dark, with bloodbaths, psychotic wolves, medical experiments gone wrong and an end I wouldn't have expected). But what I remember most about it is Cole. Cole (and his "relationship" with Isabel) was the best thing that happened to books 2 and 3, and about the only thing that kept me reading in book 3 (besides the will-they-or-won't-they-be-cured-plot), because Sam and Grace's relationship - as cute and honest and deep as it was - simply bored me after a while. But I love Cole. Seriously. Tragic tortured and infamous genius rockstar-boy turned werewolf? Unf.
I read the first Wolves of Mercy Falls book, Shiver, a month ago and loved it. At the NCTE Convention, Scholastic passed out advanced reader copies of the next installment, Linger, and I eagerly snatched one. I could not wait to discover what happened to Sam and Grace.
The sad part about getting the ARC so early is that I will have to wait forever for the third book. Filled with dramatic tension and an unresolved ending, I spent most of the time I was reading Linger anticipating the worst for Sam, Grace, the new wolves, Isabel-- basically everyone involved. Unlike Shiver, there is no happy ending for the characters and more than one resolution from Shiver unraveled in the second book.
It seems that the "cures" for lycanthropy presented in Shiver might not be cures after all...
Cole St. Clair, damaged rock star and new wolf, adds a new angle to the story. What if you wanted to be a wolf to escape your humanity?
I liked Linger almost as much as I liked Shiver. I missed the love story that made Shiver so hauntingly beautiful to read. Sam and Grace are still in love, but the plot events in Linger kept their love affair in the background for most of the story.
How long until the 3rd book comes out?

plz plz plz plz plz don’t let the rest of my reading year be this bad
fast-paced
I had a really hard time getting interested in this book. It wasn't until the last few chapters that it got somewhat exciting, though I still wouldn't say it had me on the edge of my seat. I skimmed through a lot of it. It was like they had a book about half this long and put in a bunch of crap to fill it up. The whole book built up to a climax that never really happened. I haven't read the 3rd book, but I'm guessing this one and the next one could have been combined and it would have been much more interesting. I'll probably take a break before reading the next one.
Recipe for InstaCouple, as demonstrated by Maggie Stiefvater
Ingredients are as follows:
1 melodramatic, moody teenage girl
1 angst-ridden, incredibly lyrical werewolf
Just add a drop of parental disapproval and let sit for two to three days.
Voila! You've got your InstaCouple.
Warning: side effects include lyrical, borderline strange prose, large amounts of blood loss, lovesickness in its many forms, and harrowing drama.

It's been two months since I read this book. Do I remember much of the specifics of the story? Not really. But do I remember how it made me feel? Absolutely!
I loved this! I loved getting to know Grace and Sam even more, and seeing their relationship develop even further!
I'm pretty sure this is the book where we get introduced to Cole, and I loved getting to know him too. His banter with Isabel is fabulous, and it's so fun to read!
Love this series, and already looking forward to rereading it someday!
