I actually liked this one more than the first book (Shiver). The new characters add alot to the story and it ends with a cliffhanger. Love the cover art and the green theme. I'm kind of looking forward to the next one.

I didn't like how slow paced this book was, but enjoyed the plot.

This second entry into the Wolves of Mercy Falls series kept me interested. There is a lot more about the mechanics of wolf-shifting, and I appreciated the focus on both Isabel and one of the new wolves, Cole. Personally I get really irritated by both Grace and Sam, so having someone else to focus on helped a lot. Grace and Sam are in the most melodramatic teenage relationship possible, complete with "my parents don't understand" and "I forbid you to see him again" etc. etc. and as I read this, I am constantly reminded how glad I am not to be a teenager anymore. Grace is not totally wrong that her parents are being unfair, but her parents are not totally wrong that she is behaving inappropriately either. Neither party is attempting to be at all understanding, and I think maybe the biggest stumbling block is that Grace's parents are so completely and utterly dismissive of her feelings for Sam. They need to work with her, because totally playing a teenager's life and death romantic melodrama off like it's nothing is the fastest way to make her do the exact opposite of what you say. As the future parent of a teenager, I'm taking note of my perspective on it and trying to remember how it felt to be a melodramatic teenager, too.

I'll definitely read book three, as I still want to know what happens.

This book was a good read. I loved the romance and attention to detail. It was well written with good ideas and suspense.

Linger is the sequel to Shiver. Sam was a werewolf who couldn't stay a human, but now he's permanently a human. I thought Shiver ended really nicely. I liked it, but I couldn't see how a sequel would be interesting, and therefore did not jump to read Linger. Shiver just ended very nicely on it's own. Not to mention the fact that I wasn't terribly impressed with Shiver. It lacked a really interesting driving plot and the characters were very predictable.

So that's why it took me forever to get around to reading this one. I am so glad I did! I thought this book would be a rehashing of Shiver, but the other way around (Grace turning into a wolf?). But it wasn't, thank goodness. Here's what made the book amazing for me: Cole and Isabel. Cole was a new character and Isabel was a supporting character that shifted into a main character. We got to hear from both of their points of views in this book.

Both Cole and Isabel presented entirely unique voices and thoughts on the werewolf conflict. The characters were extremely well developed and unique, and I loved and hated them both at the same time. I think this whole book could've been told about just the two of them- those were the good parts.

The adorable romance between Sam and Grace was the highlight of Shiver. It didn't develop much more in this book, but it was still nice to have there on the side. I loved it how both Sam and Grace really wanted to be with each other forever and were even plausibly thinking about getting married. (Not right away of course, but in the future). It was realisitic to me that they wanted this because that's what real people do when they're in love- they want to get married. It felt like a real romance.

There wasn't a lot of plot or action going on here, and this is probably the first book where that didn't bother me. I got so lost in reading about the characters I didn't care about action. Credit to Maggie Stiefvater for being such an amazing writer to make me not care about action. That certainly doesn't happen often.

I'm debating on 4 and 4.5 stars on this one, but I think I'll go with 4.5 stars because it was better than Shiver. I recommend this one if you liked Shiver- or even if you didn't.

4 Stars!!!

“Once upon a time, there was a girl named Grace Brisbane. There was nothing particularly special about her, except that she was good with numbers, and very good at lying, and she made her home in between the pages of books. She loved all the wolves behind her house, but she love one of them most of all.”

Linger is a true example that the second book in a series can be better than the first. I found it to be rich and just as poetic- if not more than Shiver. The writing was still beautiful and I was so happy to have more POVS in this installment. The new characters Cole and Isabel were everything- they made this book seem more interesting than the first. It wasn't just concentrating on Grace and Sam. I feel I could connect more with Isabel and Cole and their role in this one, drew me in. It also had a lot more action and intense moments.

Overall there isn't much more to elaborate on about this one. I think this is a perfect winter read with all the talk of cold weather and snow- it lays a beautiful world to get lost in perfect for a Cold winter day, and since its currently January it has been a nice time to read it and get lost in its pages :) Totally recommend if you're looking for a good, clean, YA-Paranormal Romance.

After reading Shiver and literally going crazy at the cliffhanger that ended it, I was so anxious for this to hit the shelves. I definitely had high expectations, but Stiefvater managed to surpass them with her beautiful writing, and her spectacular imagination behind this heartbreaking series. I even managed to love the characters even more after reading this, which I didn't think was possible! Sam is just AH-MAZING! He's an all around heartwarming character with a personality and heart leaving you wanting to reach into the book and pull him out! Grace always amazes me with her ability to be herself in tough times. She's a great, great character with a heart of gold! I seriously love this series, and this sequel was flat out amazing. The pages unfold like a scenery, with dialogue and characters that leave you hooked.

Linger had new twists, characters, but kept the same unbelievable romance that left many, including myself, hooked in Shiver.

Sam finally has Grace, and finally. . . Grace has Sam. It looks like the cure worked, and everything is going to be as they wished. Sam is human; a thought that always catches him off guard. He's doing everything he's ever dreamed of; he spends his days working at a book store, and every moment he can with Grace, they savor every moment together. They can both start to think of a future; College floats around in Grace's mind, but she wants to go and still have Sam with her. It looks like it'll be a bright future, where anything is possible as long as they have each other.

The forest is still filled with wolves and it looks like two more enter the pack with a few secrets. Cole is the new wolf who decided on this new life, he thought being a wolf as a way to escape; escape himself, his family, his life, and his name. He wants to rid himself as 'Cole', though, shifting isn't easy for him, and he's left with alternative thoughts to end everything.

Isabel is still . . . Isabel. She searches for ways to cope with the loss of her brother, but she can't get rid of the guilt that eats her alive. Grace continuously tells her that it's not her fault, and that she shouldn't feel responsible but, there's no way Isabel can forgive herself.

Sam continues the life he's always wanted, while Grace starts one that she's been secretly worried about. She starts to feel sick, and extremely high temperatures seem to be a regular thing for her. Doctors cannot fix the problem, and it looks like she'll have to battle this herself, she doesn't want to worry Sam.

Weeks pass, and things get worse. Sam meets Cole, and doesn't understand why Beck chose him. Cole seems unstable, and his reasons for being a wolf shock Sam. They don't know much about him, and what they learn could be dangerous for the safety of the wolves. Grace and Sam's relationship strengthens as they are forced to stay away from each other. Grace and Sam are destined to be with each other, so why is fate tearing them apart?

Overall, this was a GREAT sequel, that ended with another crazzzzyyyy cliffhanger. I cannot wait to read the next and final book in this trilogy, Forever, that comes out next summer!
