Did I understand 100% of the meta-cosmology and physics in this book? No. I am just a simple girl who enjoys a little political allegory every now and then, and a decent bit of this novel went over my head. That being said, it was definitely worth the effort. Leave it to a 50 year old anarchist utopian science fiction novel to present a compelling alternative to capitalism that feels so modern it’s still nearly futuristic. Iconic.

This was a good book. My only gripe is that it's recommended as sci-fi but is actually political philosophy. As a sci-fi novel it's boring, convoluted, and slow. Yes, the book is set in the far future where near light speed is possible, but that is the only sci-fi element. Mainly the book centers around exploring anarchism, capitalism, and the human condition in each. There is not a lot of action. If you're looking for spaceships being stranded in intergalactic space or artificial intelligence destroying entire planets this novel is not for you, because the most action that happens is a riot. As a political philosophy novel it's interesting, creative, and well written. Despite me expecting a typical sci-fi story and receiving something quite different, I enjoyed Le Guin's ideas.
