"Adventurous, Courageous and Heart-warming

What a read. A fun, engaging and exciting book that takes on various forms. The relationships exhibited between the characters, particularly the Count and Nina are touching. You become absorbed by it, the hotel your new home and the attic your sanctuary, whilst the world outside changes.

This book was beautiful in so many ways.

I spent a day reading this, while all the other things that needed to be done were left undone. And about halfway through, I wished I'd already finished it so I could start from the beginning again.

I loved Amor Towles' first book, Rules of Civility. When he published A Gentleman in Moscow I didn't rush out and get it straight away because the title turned me off a bit, I must confess. But I recently downloaded the audiobook, which is what I often do if I want to try a book out. Thank goodness I did!
I adored this book. It's better than Rules of Civility. It's long, meandering, contemplative - a book that probably breaks all the rules of the fast paced narratives we expect these days. But sometimes you need to burrow into a world and study it microscopically, and the world of Count Alexander Rostov in Russia's Metropol Hotel over decades of the twentieth century is a world that made me laugh and cry, a world I truly did not want to leave. Settle into this book and let it slowly, and then all at once, capture your heart.
But, most definitely, add it to your to-read pile.

I feel like this is a book I wanted to like, and there were some scenes I found clever and enjoyable, but overall, it was boring.
