I just love Three Pines. I love the characters, I love the settings, I love the complex mysteries. Louise Penny's is easily a favorite author.

After waiting on hold for a couple months to get this one I gobbled it up in less than 24 hours.

She has a new narrator and he does not disappoint. I remeber taking a while to adjust to the last one, but this one was perfect right from the start. His natural accent gives an authenticity to Gamache and the other characters of Three Pines.

I don't want to give any spoilers, but this one started off with a bang that has Gamache reevaluating the loyalties of some of the people he has worked closely with over the years. With a threat looming over Montreal, he doesn't know who he can trust, and has very few clues to go on.

I will say this has given me one more reason to be happy that I'm on my own personal well water, and a very deep well at that.

It leaves off with a hint of more to come, so this book eater can't wait for the next in the Three Pine series.

I think I've said this before with some of the later Three Pines books -- they are becoming more and more convoluted. It was an effort to keep up with the twists and turns and the people involved. I am not usually distracted when listening to this series, but this time I found my mind wandering. That said, I will keep up with the series. There wasn't much going on in Three Pines in this book and I think the best ones are those that involve all the Three Pines folks.
