The first 200 pages were a struggle. That was the first 9 months of the book for me because there was always something I’d rather read more. BUT then I couldn’t put it down, read way too late and woke up and pick it back up. The end was very sad and I was disappointed in the outcomes, but the book is filled with characters I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. Mini series time!

THE western
amazing characters and the circular nature of the book was so good

It started very good, and halfway through, it became wonderful. I would recommend it.
However, it puts me off that there's more in the series- it already feels full and complete (and soo long) I'm not itching for more

Easily one of my favourite reads of 2025.

It just felt real in a way most books don't. Stuff happens the way it does in actual life. It's random, messy, and hilarious. Trying to pet your favourite horse? Sneezes snot chunks on your face. First time with a saloon prostitute? Done in 10 seconds and leave embarassed.
Someone trusts a fart on the trail? Immediate regret and a shameful trip to the bushes.

The characters aren't polished or idealized. They're rough, gross, funny, broken. They felt like people, not story tools. So many books feel too perfect or cleaned up, but this one fully leans into how weird and gritty life can be.
