4.1 AVERAGE

adventurous medium-paced

This now is the last hurrah of Robert Jordan, and a return to form. The last couple of books were full of mostly uninteresting plot lines with a couple of high moments, but overall very little was resolved. This book not only rectifies that by ending every dragged out arc in a very satisfying way but also delivering some of the highest highs of the series. Easily one of my favorite books in the series.

The action is back. All roads lead to Tarmon Gaidon.

My first big reading goal of 2024 is to complete my read through of The Wheel Of Time. With only 4 books left in the series this seems a very achievable task, however, the previous few books have taken some effort to get through and I very much felt the infamous slump that many fans of the series refer to. Fortunately I found Knife Of Dreams a significant improvement and a return to the levels of enjoyment that I felt reading the earlier books in the series.

“A beautiful battle is one you don't have to fight”

Where some of the more recent books in the series have dragged in pacing with me questioning what has actually progressed in the story (looking at you Crossroads Of Twilight) - I had no such issues with this book and really found myself enjoying near enough all of the different POV character’s storylines (with the exception of some of Elayne’s chapters being frustrating in the middle). You can definitely see that things are really beginning to move towards the final battle between the Dragon Reborn and the Dark One now.

“The Golden Crane flies for Tarmon Gai’don”

This feels like the most that I have enjoyed a Wheel Of Time book in a long while, and as this is the final book written wholly by Robert Jordan in The Wheel Of Time series it is truly wonderful to see a return here to the wonderful quality from earlier books in the series.
