A model short story, to be sure!

This is what all short stories should strive to be, short in length but not lacking depth or emotion. Sullivan offers insight to how Ersyla became the sea witch and what prompted her decisions to turn to darkness. She didn't start off that way and we are able to see how choices she made as well as others created the perfect setting for her ill fate.

We are able to connect, feel and see what transpires around Ersyla and there is even a moment that is reminiscent of the Salem Witch Trials. There is fear, hatred and a forbidden element to it all. I thoroughly enjoyed it and could have easily continued to flick through this story, completely engrossed as to how Ersyla became the Sea Witch.

For fans of origin stories and unique spins on retellings, I definitely recommend this.
