Nothing revolutionary here but I still think this is a solid introduction for parents looking to raise kids in a gentle/authoritative (vs. permissive or authoritarian) manner. I was expecting a lot more gimmicky brain science but thankfully there’s not too much. There’s even a few nods to research backed parenting practices! If you’re already on the path of gentle parenting, this book will serve as validation for what you’re already doing and give you a few more things to keep in mind as you raise your tiny human.

Read this with a 2yo and it wasn't super applicable. I'd recommend this to parents with kids 4+. It's not super engaging unless you can really relate to the content. I'll probably re-read it in a couple of years.

I think this book has good information and strategies for raising an emotionally intelligent child. However, I felt the talk about the brain got a little too technical and involved for a casual reader. If you’re super into knowing how the brain works and can keep all the “brains” (upstairs/downstairs, reptilian, etc) straight, you’ll probably like it a lot. But I found it hard to keep track of it all and sort out the advice, so I kept tuning out.

For anyone that is looking for a good parenting book, without directly telling you how to parent, this is it. I loved learning about really how our brains work. How the things we do and say really affect our children, and generations to come. This is definitely a book to keep on hand for reminders as it does have illustrations and charts in it.
