Maurice is one of those characters that are not exactly likable, but relatable all the same. He doesn't try to be a good person, in fact, he's a bit on the selfish side and is really an asshole to his family.

Yet, the struggle that he goes through in term of his sexuality is hard to witness. And you really hope that he gets some sort of happy ending.

It was good.

His hiding his nature and trying to get it cured was an attestment on how terrifying 1900s England was to homosexuality. The fear was so ingrained, that it even convinced one of the characters that they were going insane.

I like Maurice a lot. He's not really a good person(like me), but he desperately wants to be himself and find love. I can relate.

Also, I really wanted Clive to be hit with a steam train.

Moreover, considering the time this was written and the kind of content that was in this book, I can't help but think that the author was extremely brave and well above their times.
