So there is a lot of talk about this book having a happy ending. I suppose it all relative but I don't know if I thought this was a happy ending. It felt more like am ominous pause than an ending of any sort.
Edit: I bumped it up a full star based on the movie which showed I definitely missed some of the message. Probably worth a reread at some point.

This was a pretty nice book, although sometimes the writing style was a bit too pretentious and confusing to me. The plot is pretty interesting, although I would have preferred the book to end with a final piece of romance or shows of affection between Maurice and Alec, rather than Clive going off to hide the truth from Anne. It seems odd to me to end a book called "Maurice" with Clive
