This was so good and touching. One the most dialogues I've ever read in my life. I loved the dialogue between the character in this story. The way E.M. Forster build up the characters and each one of them had a very specific and different personalities was amazing.
Clive is someone who has accumulated so much disgust and resentment in his life and Maurice learned to be more "open" with him, so it's quite bittersweet for this character whereas with Alec I just like to dfine him as a "free spirit" even tough he is a working class man and has his own material stuggles. Those characters loved deeply and beautifully. This book is really beautiful.

both heartbreaking and heartwarming, maurice is truly a tale simply about love and the constraints people oftentimes put on it. written in the 1910s but only published in the 1970s, reading with modern eyes we can get a glimpse on the difficulties of being queer over a hundred years ago. the prose in this novel is beautiful, passionate, but most of all accessible. anyone can read this, no matter their experience with classics, and love it. personally, i found the characters slightly void of personality (maybe it is because i am not an upper-class englishman and therefore do not hold the same values) but deeply entrenched in love, passion, and desire, which made the romances depicted realistic and ones you can connect to. plus, the movie has hugh grant, so.....

The language is sublime and poetic. The happy ending is absolutely revolutionary but I think the relationship between Maurice and Alec could have been elaborated on a bit more. I preferred the dynamics in the first half of the novel. But overall it was a great joy to read!
