This made me sob profusely. My favourite bits are when Maurice won't stop going into too much detail about him and Alec to Clive at the end and how Maurice and Clive are literally always sick. their immune systems are atrocious. Such a beautiful book. Much easier to get into the story as a book rather than a movie even though the movie is a great adaptation. I utterly adore Maurice as a character and would be his boyfriend if he shaved his moustache.

Maurice reached into my soul and embedded itself there forever. It is profoundly moving to read a story about a gay man coming into himself written in the early 20th century that is so recognisable and relatable in so many ways a century later. The journey of self-discovery, of shame, heartbreak, of loss and self-acceptance resonates so deeply and is written so beautifully. I'm just astounded at how much I loved this.
