Little Nothing is not the sort of book that I usually read, but I am so pleased that I did. The fairy-tale like theme that runs through the story with unexpected twists and turns kept me enthralled. The characters are well depicted, bringing to mind the wonderful characters evoked during childhood readings of Grimm's Fairy Tales. Little Nothing is a beautifully written story filled with the unexpected.
Thanks to Penguin Group Blue Rider Press & Plume and NetGalley for the ARC.

The fourth star is for the last few lines which captivated me, and turning the page, I found no more.

This was a weird one. A complicated one. A downright strange one. What can I say? I was entertained, I was sympathetic, I was aghast. It was a very powerful narrative build with deep and challenging tales of this is how we can determine a body is wrong and these are the lengths we must go to in order to set it right. There was a point where this story went completely off the rails and though it never got back on, I was happier off-grid.

Disturbingly beautiful. This book will leave you barely satisfied and aching for all of the characters, but, undoubtedly enraptured and moved.

3.5 Stars.

It starts with realism, swerves into magical territory, and lands in full-blown old-school fairy tale land. I liked this, the story of a girl who is "cured" of dwarfism only to be abandoned by her family and left with no choice but to live her life as a wolf. The man who loves her is never far behind, nor are the people who would see them both dead. It all comes together in the end, so be patient.

So I knew I was probably not going to love this book, simply because I don't do fantasy of any kind, but I felt like I wanted to give it a try because I read Michael Cunningham's recent book, The Wild Swan, and liked it a lot, and I started this book with a spirit of adventure even though I knew it wouldn't be anything like Mary Coin (one of my favorite books the year it came out). And I stuck with it through most of it, but the pivotal moment when
Spoiler when the main character is raped and turns feral
sort of ended it for me. I skimmed the rest of the book to see what happened, but I just don't have it in me to suspend my disbelief and/or the desire to do the metaphorical/philosophical gymnastics to make it enjoyable for me. It's written beautifully, Marisa Silver will remain on my "must read" list, and I will certainly recommend the book to patrons who I know would enjoy it as well as book groups.
