A beautiful book with wonderful pictures to look at, it has an original take on the colors of the seasons and some gender friendly characters.

Hmm.. this would be a great book to make into a calendar. I enjoy using this book with students, having them first say which color is most important in the picture, and finding things that contribute to the color. It's also a great read aloud, and the pictures and their many facets are ones you can enjoy over and over again. I used this for a special needs class as spring returned this year. Joyce Sidman writes wonderful poetry, book, after book, after book.

No. The setup for this book was fine - a season turning book of colors. But the writing wasn't up to the task. The wrong amount of words and the wrong words. It didn't flow and it didn't inform. And the art didn't make up for it. The wrong art with uninteresting subjects - with an occasional bright spot like the hummingbirds. Too long. Too boring.

I love this illustrator! The author and illustrator use color in a wonderful combination.

This book is fun to look at and read about the seasons in their different colors. And which way each color is put into every season!

I wish this had won the Caldecott. I can't wait to read this with children. The illustrations were inventive and original, and really complex and subtle. The rhymes were the epitome of showing and not telling. Fantastic!

The art is quite unique. I've been looking at it on and off for several weeks, always finding something new and fresh to enjoy. I'll definitely have to borrow it again to gaze at, if I don't end up getting my own copy in the meantime. The art may feel a little "complex" to younger kids, if so then the equally beautiful but more serene [b:Sleep Like a Tiger|13429619|Sleep Like a Tiger|Mary Logue|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1361786410s/13429619.jpg|18920341] may be a better choice. But I myself couldn't get enough of this book.

The artwork is extraordinary!

This would be a wonderful book to teach colors and seasons in a new way. It's also a wonderful introduction to non-rhyming poetry.
