I’m really disappointed in this. There was very prominent sexism (which could be a translation issue in some regards) and the story/writing was just not good enough to look past it.

Definitely interesting, but probably because I’m already invested via the TV series.

When I first started reading book, I was confused not realizing that it was a collection of short stories. Both “The Last Wish" and “Sword of Destiny” by Andezej Sapkowski precede the full-length novels, providing a background on the characters and setting the stage for the Witcher series.

These short stories act like flash backs for the main character, Geralt of Rivia (also known as a witcher), follow his adventures and relationships bound by destiny. The series are nonlinear but are easily followed while staying unpredictable, conveying humor, adventure, romance and sorrow. Sapkowski has a unique way of setting up a story interweaving traditional and fairytale like fantasy while mixing in complicated questions about morality, religion, diversity, and true feelings. The characters are strong, vibrant, dependable, and diverse. With easy and natural flowing conversations, they characters show their own personality while creating a world that is not only interesting but believable. Gerald makes the perfect protagonist with his stoic behavior and unpredictable choices and perspectives. He stand be his belief and morality treating all transactions as a business deal leaving no personal feelings.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this read and would recommend to anyone looking for something similar to Tolkien full of magic, adventure and romance.
