After taking up Eisen's challenge to find Himmel in the last resting place of souls long passed, Frieren and her apprentice Fern head north, where their destination - and the castle of the Demon King - are waiting. They also find Eisen's apprentice, a young warrior named Stark, and invite him to join their party. As the trio carries on, enemies old and new will halt them in their steps, forcing the young adventurers to think on their feet and stretch the limits of their skills should they wish to move forward in a timely manner.

I love the juxtaposition of old and new in this series, and I can see from this volume that it's likely Frieren will recreate her journey anew with fresh faces. Stark is a fun and curious addition to the new party, and I like that we he's also become part of the flashbacks we get with Frieren and Fern as well. I also have a feeling that we will be seeing a lot more familiar faces - friendly and foe-ish - as the volumes continue, which should be fun and which will definitely help this story put a pep in its step (to Frieren's disappointment, I'm sure). I can see why this did so well as an anime and I'll definitely be picking up the show soon!

A great continuation of the story. Nice that Frieren has gained another travelling companion. And a cliffhanger ending. Yep, I’m hooked.

I’m happy to finally meet Stark in the manga! We finally have our main trio! :D

I’m reading this after I watched season 1 of the anime, so I generally know what’s going to happen, but I’m glad we’re finally at my second or third favorite arc! (Aura the Guillotine arc!)

I absolutely adore the art; its so beautiful. Highly recommend! :)

Wow, what an amazing volume.

The first half is all about meeting the Warrior who will join the team. He was defending this town for so long, but really he's kind of a coward. But Frieren pushes him to face his fears (and dragon) in a really awesome way. Second half deals with demons and their push to sneakily try to invade a human town. Frieren ain't having that shit happen.
