"It's not a bad thing to be afraid. Fear has gotten me this far."

I won't repeat too much of my praise but my initial thoughts stand. Wonderful.

There's less meandering as Frieren and Fern find themselves with a destination and lengthy (don't forget silly) journey ahead. Past vignettes are fewer although Frieren's history comes up in the present insofar as people recognize Frieren as a walking legend and she remains affected and thoughtful.

She's still struggling to understand how the length of time periods impacts others although there's already character growth here. Fern resignedly but somewhat fondly questions if Frieren 'sees' her at all. The efficacy of the medium is on full display in this manga as the complexity of the relationship is brought to life between the writing in contrast to the characters' actions. Fern can question their relationship while the reader is treated to examples of their closeness with images of both characters falling asleep leaning on each other at various points. This depth lends itself well to multiple re-reads.

They've been traveling together over half of Fern's life, or, as Frieren points out, one one-hundredth of hers. Add Stark to the mix! A warrior joins the party! What a fantastic new character and smart to add him into the dynamic to keep things fresh. He's a 'coward' and an earnest if slightly goofy, foil to Fern's seriousness.

The ending is a fantastic panel and if I didn't have the next volume to read right away I would've been impressed by the writing and also grumpy about waiting for the next one!

Fun continuation of the first volume. Great use of a slower pace to do solid world- and character-building. I feel like by the end of volume 2 I know the MC well, but there' still enough action to keep me wanting more in volume 3.

After I read the first one, I was impressed. This one took my expectations to the next level. The detail of characters to the world building, i enjoyed thos volume thoroughly.
