This was great! Stark is a wonderful addition to the main cast, and his interactions with Fern were so funny and a definite highlight of the volume. I loved learning more about Frieren too, especially with how badass she was (and is casually hiding so many intriguing secrets!).

The pacing was pretty wonky near the end though, with the lead-up to

the confrontation with the demons

feeling so dragged out. I loved the ending with

Frieren the slayer

though, and am curious to learn more about magic!

The second volume in this series really solidified my interest in this story! I really like the concept of a person who lives for so long that they are mostly forgotten and look so young that they are underestimated. I'm really interested to see where this story goes!

I kind of feel that the core conceit of this series, a long lived elf in a fairly standard RPG style fantasy setting, was sufficiently covered in the first volume, and this tends to confirm that opinion.
