Really didn’t like the random change of POV that didn’t add much to the story and didn’t even start up until nearly halfway through the book, and I thought the end dragged on too long, and I don’t think I liked the main character as much as I was supposed to. But I can see why people like this book and it’s intensity.

Based in the 1974 Alaskan wilderness - a family moves with the hopes of fresh start only to find more heartbreak and despair in the cold winters months.
OKKK - I can see why this won Goodreads Best Historical Fiction in 2018 - however, this story was SOOO incredibly sad. I feel like it’s unfair to rate this one because it’s a beautifully tragic story and because I honestly felt like the ending wasn’t even really a “happy ending” but it was the best outcome given the circumstances.
Definitely worth the read… especially if you’re a KH fan! Just be prepared and have some tissues on hand
