When i first read the back of the cover I imagined that this would be middle aged people, but i was wrong they were younger. This was the perfect beach read, and made me want to go to maine as well as watch baseball. This book had my attention the entire time and i looked forward to reading it. I will say the ending didnt end the way i’d hope but i still enjoyed

A sweet, small town love story with low spice. I love Dean and the baseball details. I got frustrated with Evvie half way through the book, but her journey is the main story and it all works out in the end. The audio book was especially compelling, thanks to narration by Julia Whelan.

Pros:
  • Baseball
  • Dean
  • Small town coastal Maine
  • Friends
  • Pop-culture references
  • Narrated by Julia Whelan

Cons:
  • Gaslighting dead husband
  • Evvie’s shitty communication skills
  • Closed door, limited spice

If you like angst and an emotional journey, this one is for you.

This story had so many layers that were expertly handled. And I greatly appreciate that the story didn't take the "love fixes your brokenness" stance. Love held a lot of the relationships together but each character had to address theie challenges no matter how many people loved them. It's very refreshing.

I also appreciate that the story takes place over the course of years rather than days or weeks. So the relationships had time to grow and react appropriately.

The build up of the plot in this book was such a slow build and slow burn in such a nice way. I really liked that there was such a focus on mental health and therapy, it felt like such a genuine storyline. I read such diverse books now that this is the first predominantly white book I’ve read in a while, so I think this was worth the read.
