I enjoyed the first book. I read this book hoping to fall more in love with the series. However, I felt frustrated by how in the dark the reader was the whole time. For the book being split POV I didn't feel like I understood the MMC or his motivation. I also didnt feel any real chemistry between the characters. I was constantly questioning their desire to be together.
This was not for me.
Partly this had to do with the sex scenes between the two main characters that were not exactly my cup of tea but that wasn’t the main reason.
I found over half of the book quite boring, with repetitive smut. It finally picks up around 60/70% and I liked the book from that point on.
I knew what I was getting myself into after reading The Ritual but Sin was too much for me. Many times he was just intentionally cruel to Ellie with no apparent reason. Given her backstory I wanted to yell at him to just stop.
And Ellie? I rarely felt that bad for a character. Everyone in her life has let her down (yes Sin, I am looking at you, too). Poor girl is being put through so much abuse and assault even after Sin “claims” her and says he‘d never let anyone touch her. He didn’t do a very good job and she deserved better.

May this kind of love never find me
I usually like dark romance but this was just too manipulative and brutal for me.

This book barely got 2 stars from me, and I honesty might change it to 1. I have been reading this book off and on for months and ended up having to waste my audio book credit to finish it. The only reason it got 2 stars is because I was invested enough to finish it and see what ended up happening, so I felt like that counted for something.
Before I get into my main issues with this book, the minor one is that there are about 76 plot twist and a million storylines going on at once. I love a good plot twist, I even love multiple plot twist. There comes a point though when it's too much. I literally rolled my eyes multiple times towards the end of this book because I was like ope here comes another plot twist hopefully this one stays on track with the currently storyline.
Ellington. My goodness Ellington. GIRLFRIEND!! I don't even have words. She doesn't need Easton Sinnet she needs therapy and a hug.
Easton Sinnnet?? He just needs to go straight to hell.
I am not new to dark romance, I read the trigger warnings, and I read the authors note before reading the book. With that being said this book was disgusting. If you are a victim of domestic violence or SA especially as a child, I DO NOT under any circumstances recommend that you read this book.
The things that happen and are said in this book in the name of "love" are toxic and unacceptable, even in the realm of dark romance. what im about to say is technically a spoiler, but if you plan on reading this book I would recommend reading this part because it doesn't give anything away that you aren't going to learn about within the first like 30-50 pages and is not a major detail in the grand scheme of things. There is a point in the book where Ellington is essentially having a mental breakdown over the sexual abuse brought on by one of her step fathers and Easton dick face Sinnet over here decides that that's a great time to "claim her" "help her" and "give her what she needs" by forcing into sex and calling her the names her step father did while assaulting her and saying things that he and she did.
The author tries to push so hard during Ellington's POV that she loves it and that's what she needs to get through these moments. SHE NEEDS THERAPY not be raped more. fiction or not this book crossed lines that never should have been approached and I really hope that any responsible adult reading this book that may be in Ellington's situation is able to understand that how this man and relationship was dealt with in this fictional book, should be left in fiction. (or preferably not in a book at all.)
I loved the ritual and while there were some parts that were like oh wow, it's dark romance and that's what you get. This book however put me in a slump so bad that I didn't read for weeks.

This book was overall pretty good. As you move through the book, there are parts that hurt your heart. There’s crazy twister and turns that you never saw coming. I feel like this book deals with many dark topics so definitely check your trigger warnings before starting.
