I don’t normally read mystery books, but I’ve really enjoyed some of Agatha Christie’s other books and thought I’d give her Miss Marple books a try. I really enjoyed the mystery, the vicar, and Miss Marple herself. However, I was confused by the fact that the Vicar, Clement, narrated the whole book. I was guessing it would be from Miss Marple’s POV, or at least third person since it IS her series. I’m not sure if the rest of the books are like this. But I did enjoy the writing style and wit, and the vicar was not a bad narrator, I was just expected someone else. There are a lot of people involved in the mystery. I had a hard time keeping track of names, their significance to the mystery, relationships, etc. And the whole clock business (running 15 minutes ahead—-not a spoiler, it’s known from the beginning) kept confusing the timeline in my head, too. But I’m also not the best at math/time, especially mental math.

Agarha Christie's first novel to feature Jane Marple is a worthy debut which is the story of a man whom few liked, being murdered in the study of a Vicar. The plot and solving of the mystery mad for a worthwhile and enjoyable read. Dame Agatha remains one of the best mystery writers ever and her style is a wonderful break from more current authors.

My first Miss Marple story, though I was surprised she wasn’t the narrator. It was an interesting choice. I might stick with M. Poirot moving forward but I haven’t ruled Miss Marple stories completely out.

¡Por fin se me hizo leer la primera entrega donde aparece Miss Marple! Y sip, no quedé decepcionada.

This was my first Agatha Christie. I enjoyed it very much. The twists and turns on who was the murder was not anticipated and those of the kinds of mystery books I love.

It's difficult for me to decide which character I like best Miss Marple or Poirot, I just love them both for different reasons! I was surprised that I hadn't read the first book featuring Miss Marple and was sure I was going to love it. I did end up liking it but not as much as other stories with her.

This one is written from the perspective of the vicar of vicarage where the victim is murdered. I'm starting to realise that although Ms Marple or Poirot my be the mystery-solver in each book, the "author" can be anyone.

I struggled a bit to keep track of all the characters in this one and it hasn't been one of my favourites so far. That said, still another clever ending :)
