Very enjoyable read! All I knew about it before beginning was it was queer and had fake dating.  I’m a sucker for fake dating and love seeing queer rep so I borrowed it from our library. I just adored these characters. Luc is a hot mess, but he’s so lovable. Oliver seems put together, but also has his own insecurities and issues. Together they both seem to want to help the other face their issues and we love to see character growth.

Overall, I thought it was very funny and really loved how Luc and Oliver helped each other grow. This book is really funny and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I can’t wait to check out the sequel and read other books by this author. I’ve got my eye on the upcoming A Lady for a Duke.

THIS BOOK IS MY NEW COMFORT READ. I'VE NEVER LAUGHED SO MUCH WHILE READING. OLIVER AND LUC HAVE ALL MY HEART. OLIVER IS SUCH A CINNAMON ROLL AND LUC'S CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IS CHEF'S KISS OKAY!!!!!! THIS IS HOW YOU SHOW A CHARACTER GROW IN A HEALTHY WAY. THE CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN ALEX AND RHYS HAD ME WHEEZING. LUC'S AND OLIVER'S FRIENDS WERE SO NICE AND SUPPORTIVE. READ THIS BOOK

Boyfriend Material is about Luc O‘Donnell, who after a bad Night out is at risk of losing his job if he doesn’t get himself a respectable boyfriend to go to a work funktion. The book deals with what it means to be a respectable gay man, the effects of public scandals/ being born to celebrities, different family structures and dynamics. The plot is that of a conventional fake dating trope but focuses more on mental health and developing a healthy relationship. The banter between Oliver and Luc is amazing  and there are plenty on funny puns on Luc. I regularly come back to this book and I’m never disappointed. There are a few things the criticism of fetishization/ stereotypes could be made about. ( The friendship between Luc and Bridget, Luc and Oliver’s friendgroups). Personally I do not agree but I am not a gay man and can only give my perspective as a woman.
