This was an okay, quick read. I'd enjoyed others in this series, and as this was a freebie, thought I may as well give it a go. It's a "heroine is compromised by hero so they have to marry" kind of story, which I admit is one of the tropes of which I'm quite fond in HRs. I'm also not averse to stories in which the heroine is honest about her attraction to and desire for the hero - I mean, the heroes of these sorts of book are invariably drop-dead gorgeous, so why shouldn't a woman be able to think so? Of course, in period romance, a woman isn't supposed to act on those feelings, or express them, which, if handled well, all serves to increase the sexual tension.
There's plenty of that here, and it's well-done. I just think that the characters weren't really fleshed-out enough, and the reconciliation towards the end was cursory; given how Derek treated Elizabeth, I think she could have made him grovel a bit more!
I think I'll stick to Kendall's full-length novels from now on.

Part of my Kindle Klean-up Project
So I’ve had this little novella on my Kindle since Jan 2012 - and it probably should have stayed there. It only took me 11 years to get to this - so I should probably admit that this author is just not for me.
I DNF the other book of hers that I had, [b:Sinful Surrender|6671715|Sinful Surrender (The Elusive Lords, #1)|Beverley Kendall|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1357961669l/6671715._SY75_.jpg|6866664], (which seems to have been repackaged and rebranded on Amazon) which should have clued me in. However, since this was a novella I figured - why not give this a try?
Well - it turns out that the author tried to fit in a novel worth of plot into a choppy little novella. Plus the writing was pretty stilted.
Our couple meet and there is basically insta-love - which could have been fun and cute but we had sentences like:
“like the departure of a long treasured friend, he bade a silent farewell to his good judgment.”
“Apparently, women were rendered speechless in the presence of gentleman with excessive good looks—particularly the ones they happened to be in love with.”
“He had an aura of confidence about him—some might say arrogance—that drew women with the same pull the sun exerted on the Earth.”

Sweet, short story of a woman seduced but she gets her happily ever after.
Started out as a solid story and had potential. However, the story fell apart and characters never develop into any thing memorable for me. It seemed to me that the minor characters had a very passive role and also underdeveloped.
I could usually breeze through a romance novel within a day or two, sometimes less. But dear lord, for some reason I just couldn't with this book. The story didn't pull me in and after 3 weeks, I figured I'm never going to finish. Marked it as read because I'm technically done with it. It really is true...life's too short and there are too many books in the world for me to force myself to read something I don't enjoy. I feel bad for writing this but it is what it is :(
Could have been really good if it had been more developed. Liked the heroine's mother a lot and would have appreciated more info about her sister.
This was an okay book. I loved the tension between Elizabeth and Derek but I couldn't believe the situations Elizabeth kept finding herself in in.
Derek has problems with Elizabeth's family and doesn't realize it when he first meets Elizabeth in her first season in London. After Elizabeth gets caught in an inappropriate situation by an older female she comes up with a lie to try and save her dignity and her family's.
Derek is caught up with his feelings for Elizabeth but also the fact that Elizabeth's family tried to entrap his brother into marrying Elizabeth's older sister Madaline. After paying money to Elizabeth's family, Derek holds contempt on the family.
Can Derek over look the fact of who Elizabeth's family is or will he lose Elizabeth and his heart?

A nice novella ment to fill in the gaps between books. A well payed out plot line that pulls in some of the characters from the other books in the series.
There is a nice happy ending, even though the process Derek went through to get there seemed a little abrupt. It is a novella after all and it accomplishes what it set out to do nicely
