Un libro davvero stupendo, per quanto breve è un libro che vá letto con molta attenzione, accade tutto in una giornata, con le storie che si intrecciano di vari personaggi, ricco di sentimenti

Virginia Woolf's writing is always so insightful, so accurate. Though this story is set in central London and takes place over the course of one day in the 1920s, the characters could easily be from our own time. It seems to me that Woolf's special skill was in understanding people from all classes and from all walks of life. This understanding is evident in the narrative as it shifts between the perspectives of a variety of characters linked to a party thrown by the eponymous hero, exploring each of their hopes and concerns. With the main characters being in their fifties, the novel is laced with a sort of nostalgia for youth and what could have been. It is a beautiful read.

Going into this book I really wasn't too sure what to expect but this was a nice little read. As someone who's definitely wanting to stick to "lighter" novels at the moment due to not great personal circumstances this certainly ticked the bill, the perfect inner monologue and a rich display of characters. Love any book with a London setting too. Whilst setting the story over the course of one day was clever I still wish this could have been longer!

An interesting book, and my first Woolf!

I think I’d like to read this physically, as I found the style of this quite jarring and didn’t have a huge amount of flow.

We do have interesting characters who say much more in their thoughts than spoken, which I always find a really realistic portrayal of us humans.

Just couldn’t quite get into this, so much so I didn’t realised I actually finished listening to this until today!

I think that I found the book to boring to continue, I’d have probably liked it if I kept on but it just didn’t really seem right.
