Such a delightful Christmas treat. Best closure possible for this series, although I'd definitely love more of Rosa and co., even if just to be sure they're still well and happy.

Full review on my blog

Though I read the other two, and I knew already, it still left me flabergasted at how good Hot is written ❤️ The little sausage dog is written as a proper character and not like an accessory. I’ll forever be grateful and scream about that one!!

It was also so great to read about my big heart Rosa again! In good humor, I had a few giggles throughout the book! Reaching the moments of Christmas however, I shed lots of tears.. just how sweet everything was, Rosa’s made up family from long-lost blood relations aswell as close friends, was marvelous ❤️

I read this book because I wanted a festive read. I’m not sure that’s what I got, as most seemed to be set several month before we were in December.

It took me longer than usual to get into this book. I think the writing style towards the beginning was a bit choppy, something just didn’t flow well at first.

It didn’t dawn on me until I was nearly halfway through that what I was reading was clearly part of series, and definitely not the first book! However, I did still enjoy it. It felt like I was part of the community in Cockleberry Bay, hearing conversations between friends and learning about the comings, goings, and bits of drama that happened. It was a pleasant and cosy read, but it didn’t leave me wanting to read more about the world within it just yet.

So as a festive standalone, it was okay - but as the Christmas "special" of a series, it might be totally different! Basically, I don’t really think I can give a fair review until I read the others in the Cockleberry Bay series, like I was supposed to do! (woops)

Reading the story took me back to when I was young and used to sit unnoticed in the kitchen. At the same time, my mom and a group of female relatives would talk, totally unaware of the little ears that listened intently. The dialogue has a grittiness that is shocking but oh, so real as to feel like you are little ears listening unnoticed.

I loved the shock of such blatantly real conversations in this story, from menopause to incontinence to romance after baby. May does not sugarcoat these conversations; instead keeps them as accurate as if it was a conversation she overheard. It is so refreshing within the genre to have that bit of grittiness.

My favorite character for this story is Tina Green, mother to single father Danny, and grandmother to Alfie. She showed so much chutzpah and determination to solve the mysteries and make things right for everyone. Rosa is very distracted by her newborn son and other baby-related happenings, so Tina steps up, figures out what’s going, and sets everything right.

I love the ending. It is the perfect ending for this story, and it left me with lots of Christmas feels. I also loved the event Carol-oke. Such a fun concept for a book and a fundraiser, as groups compete with their own renditions of popular Christmas carols.

If you are looking for a Christmas story with a little mystery, a slight grittiness and sass, and a lot of Christmas spirit, look no further!
