Sadly, this might end up being a DNF. Not sure if I'm in the wrong mindset to read this, but honestly, I'm just bored with it. I am going to get the audio book version to listen to see if there's a plot, otherwise, meh. Not worth the long wait for this book. Prob won't read any more of this series

Loved this revisit to Fraser's Ridge and surrounding communities in the southern colonies. Took a bit to get through, mostly I wanted to savor the story because I know it will be at least a few more years before the next book/last in series is released. I do feel like this book was a bit of a breath between Books 8 & 10, a long, rather peaceful stay with the characters before we bid them goodbye. When taking the series as a whole, I think these breaks are necessary, though it can create a bit of a slog to get through each one - especially when they are almost 1,000 pages/50 hours.

Listened via Audible and can still highly recommend that route, Davina Porter's narration continues to be an absolute treat.

In a long-standing series of books, the beginning of a new book often has to spend a lot of time rehashing what went before. This is true of this book but once the story started it was a roller coaster ride that left the reader hanging - waiting impatiently for the next book.

Giving this book 3 stars is actually a compliment to how compelling I find the characters since 3/4 of the book had very little in terms of plot but I will, apparently, happily read scenes of little consequence about characters I love. Unfortunately there are also a lot of characters I just feel Meh about and the list of those seems to keep growing. It is inevitably hard to say goodbye to the characters we love, but I think it is a very good thing that the next book is intended to be the last in the series and here’s hoping it doesn’t take another 7 years to write…

Not my favorite of hers, it felt rushed (yes even for a 969 page book) in a few areas, which made some scenes confusing but I did savor it as long as I could knowing it will be awhile till the 10th comes out. And despite not being my favorite it was comforting to return to the characters I’ve loved for so many years and learn about their latest trials and joys. I’m sure I will reread it in the next year as I have done all the other books and I’ll get more out of it the second time (and third by the time the 10th comes out).
