The worst of the 9 books, IMO. WTF with Ian and his first wife....good grief.

I'm excited to finish the published work in this series! While the series is amazing and I would happily reread it, this last book took a long time for me to power through. I am interested in Jamie and Claire's adventures through the Revolutionar war, but I also feel like their story could be done?

I loved that we got a big chunk at the beginning the book without a major upheaval. Everyone was mostly together and doing normal things. No major catastrophes that hurt my heart. Not as much war/politics to slog through. And we picked up some new family members in unexpected ways.
Of all the various storylines and themes encompassed in the Outlander series, my favorite is always Jamie and Claire at home and this one fits that bill perfectly. They are settled in North Carolina and the Revolutionary War is on their minds but not yet impacting their lives much. There are various characters and family members they interact with and it's all just the stuff of daily life which is very comforting to me. There's plenty of drama and excitement but the foundation of their lives feels strong in this one and that's what I like best.
Not actually finished. DNF for now and not sure if I'll pick it back up or not.

I was really torn while rating this one. On the one hand, this book continues the series’ overarching magnetism of its character development and smart writing. It’s lovely and it’s heartwarming.
I rated it two stars because nothing really happens in this one…based on the title I was expecting a lot more adventure, some profoundly sad moments, or shocking twists. In actuality, it reads very much like a filler, and there’s a lot said that could’ve been said in much fewer pages. I typically don’t mind the length of the outlander books because there always appears to be a reason for it, but this book was the exception to that.
