I’m finally done with this never-ending series that should have ended 4 books ago. Until the next one…

Diana Gabaldon has given me yet again the sublime pleasure of spending time with Claire, James, Brianna and the rest of their increasingly unwieldly family. To find such great characters, accurate history and so much more is rare. I pace myself because otherwise I'd read these books straight through, ignoring everyone and everything around me.
To the author: please keep writing about these characters for many more years. No one else comes close to doing what you do (although I do admit being quite of fond of Sara Donati's books).

So, the fact that it took me 9 days to read this, says something about how hard it was to keep reading this book. I have always enjoyed the Outlander books, and usually read through them in a couple days. But, this one should have never been wrote. Or, it should have been wrote as a series of short stories, as it kept skipping back and forth between characters and their storyline. It would have been a much easier read if it had been a short story about William/Lord John and family, and short about Ian and his journey, Jamie and Claire, etc. I felt like I read 888 pages of scattered chaotic thoughts. It does not feel good to write a review like this, for a book from a series that I genuinely like reading. I hope the next book (which judging from the ending of this book, there will be another) will be more concise in thought, and the story will not be so dragged out, just to have an 800+ page book.

I love this world. Always have, always will. This book felt a little all over the place, and more like a set up for the end. There wasn’t one consistent plot. I still thoroughly enjoyed it though. I will now be anxiously awaiting the next and final book of this marvelous series
Giving one whole star just for my hometown Kings Mountain being in the book.
I love outlander dearly but these last few books didn’t need to exist. This series could have been 7 books MAX.
I always feel some type of way when I finish one, because the endings are usually pulse-pounding and moving. But I cannot keep pretending like I am not bored out of my mind for most of the book. (these last few anyways). The parts that I am excited to read are super short and the parts that bore me are super long.
This one might have surpassed Fiery Cross as the most boring and filler content. Which is sad to say since it’s the second to last one. But this didn’t feel like “Book 9” it felt like “Book 10 Part 1”. It was also full of repetition.
The series has gotten more magical, which I don’t have any particular issue with. The main issue I had is that she clearly didn’t know what to do with Lord John or Willie, and Claire and Jamie are just waiting on the battle to start, so everyone is just hanging around. Willie falls in love with the worst women possible in every book. Women that don’t even want him. She refuses to give Lord John some semblance of peace and happiness. If she doesn’t have a good plot for them she could sideline them like Marsali and Fergus until they have some action.
Anyways I don’t know when the final book will be released. I absolutely will be reading it and fingers crossed it knocks our socks off. We deserve it for being faithful readers.
