Too many major events took place outside the main narrative and some abrupt plot points were jarring. Still, many favorite characters returned to continue the story.
I love Outlander but this, for me, was a bit of a let down. I don’t think anything hugely significant happened and almost feels like a filler book. It was very slice-of-life, which was nice in some ways but books this big need more. Honestly, this book should have been more exciting and been the finale. I’ll definitely read the next and hopefully last book, but in how many years will that be?!
Is there such a thing as a pleasant slog? That’s the best way to describe my experience of this book. I love the Frasers and the entire extended family so reading about the more mundane day to day is still fun but there is nothing that really drives this book forward. The pacing in the latter books is a lot slower than in the first three, which is fine, it just makes getting through them more of a commitment, I also have to say that after 888 pages of relatively little happening ending on a cliff hanger was frustrating. Having said all that, I loved Ian’s journey in this book and look forward to more time with Bree and William together.

TBH, I skipped all the William POV stuff. It was so boring. And Roger is still a total yawn. I actually like this better than the other books, as there wasn't constant rape/abduction.
With Davina Porter as the narrator of the audio book, I was pleased to be once again in the Outlander world. This ninth volume did seem to be a bunch of short stories cobbled together, but I do appreciate the details and historical background that is woven into the novel. Looking forward to the tenth volume.
Well, this one leaves ya hangin'. I hope Diana puts a little quick on the next one - the final installment to wrap up this amazing series.
The best book yet in the Outlander series. Beautifully written and I was grateful that recaps of past books were artfully worked into to the story (because, really, who can remember every detail over so many books/years?). I thought the balance of focus between Claire/Jamie, Brianna/Rodger, and William was well done. I hope we don't have to wait too many years for the next book, as this one ends on a big cliffhanger!
This was by far the most boring of all the books. I would not suggest it. Just wait for the TV show to come out.
