Let me start off by saying that this book is extremely dark and you should take the trigger warning list seriously. If you don't want to read fucked up shit, this book is not for you.

That said, the first part of the book was good. It was well written and grusome and overall interesting to read (only because it's fiction).

But the second half?
Not so much.

Don't get me wrong, there were good arcs there too. I loved the Bonny and Clide vibes. The portraying of PTSD was well written (at least, I thought so) and the Culling 2.0 was poetic (and gruesome).

But the rest? No thank you.
Somehow, Zade's god complex became the main storyline. It was too repetitive.

The way they handle Adelines PTSD? Not healthy. At all. But maybe that was the point. Idk.

One last thing: I have no idea how they manage to have poetic inner monologues and speak complete sentences during their apparently mindblowing sex? Couldn't be me.

Got an early start on my 2024 New Year's Resolution to stop reading books I'm not enjoying. I read the first, bought the second because fuck cliffhangers, and now that
she's been saved by Zade and is getting ready to kick her traffickers' asses
I don't really need to know the end
I'm sure the bad guys all die horrible deaths and she gets her sex drive back.
I like smut as much as the next girl, but I feel slightly dirty for reading what's basically Q Anon fanfiction.

Where to begin?

This book is very raw, part 1 is full with rape, blood and force knife play, and it can be very disturbing to a lot of people, after the rape scenes, you have to take some minutes to compose yourself before continuing the reading. The violence and the aggression sex slaves endure is something not easy to digest.
Saying all that, I will rather read part 1 all over again than Adeline and Zane scenes.

I guess the author doesn’t have any experience with PTDS or she didn’t did a well thorough research of it.
It was so uncomfortable reading Zane thoughts knowing what Adeline was recovering from, and the fact that  Adeline was feeling sexually attracted to him ever after everything was bizarre.

For a split moment you think the characters are developing, and you start to see Adeline more mature and grown up, specially with all the training she does to learn how to defend herself, and to Zade for “respecting” her boundaries with not touching her body.
All of that goes to waist when they start to have sex again.

But before that, the fact that he was actually ANGRY about not being able to touch her because of her trauma? He gets fucking angry that her MOM and BEST FRIEND are allowed to hug her and not him. Sir! She was rapped not stop for almost 3 months. Of course she will not want a man near her! He makes everything about himself.
The cherry on top was when he lied to her about taking off her DIU while she was sleeping, and finishing inside her, because he wants to OWN her one way or another.

She is not better, she acknowledge the Stockholm Syndrome in his face, and doesn’t do anything about it, for one single page you think she is finally leaving him but she is so manipulated and brainwash that she thinks she needs him, but anyone with 2 brain cells that reads this books know this is NOT love and will NEVER be.

He is a walking red flag all together but I think the one that is scarier to me, is that he doesn’t give her a “safe world”, he likes knife and blood play, and everyone who has at least a bit of knowledge in that area can know is BDSM, and a Dom needs to give the Sub a safe word.

Also the plot was weak, the first book at least we had a bit of actions because of Satans Society, and now that Claire was the one behind everything, it was dull. Only killing the rapist slowly and painfully and trying to locate Claire, of course, with the uncomfortable sex scenes between the those two.
I think I rather read the sex scenes between Sibel and her imaginary hunch-men than those two.
They even took Daya characters importance out of the book, and she is a better character than Adeline.

So in conclusion, get yourself a man that wakes you up in the middle of the night forcing himself inside you because you were having a nightmare about your rapist hurting you; since you deserve to be punish for screaming another mans name since he is the only monster allowed to hunt your head. :)
“And I don’t care how much it fucking hurts”

The .5 start is because of Sibel, she was funny.
