Reminded me of the movie taken. This book shocked me,I did not expect it! I never wanted a series to be a movie more than the cat and mouse duo.
It not only was a dark romance but It brought to light the horrors of sex trafficking. Kept me hooked!

As a sequel to Haunting Adeline, yes there’s more rape. If we could have just dialed back a bit on that, I wouldn’t have minded. In all, I liked reading the suspense. I did have to skip over a little to get past the other stuff. But I can confidently say I do liked rio. Poor guy

3.5 for part 1 and 4.5 for part 2
The depth that Carlton went to for part 1 is immaculate in the sense of creating the scene and being a dedicated author. However I had to give a day break at one point because of how intense the r*pe and torture scene got at some point.
Now part 2-LOVE. Every time Zade made Addie become mentally and physically stronger I got so excited. All the praise kinks, power/control changes, and their bond adjusting to the ‘new version of Addie’ was so addicting.

some of the things Zade does in the last 150-100 pages really bugged me.
Making Adeline think that he took out her IUD in her sleep just gave me ick. I know he didn’t actually do it and admitted that right after but it left a sour taste in my mouth.
Either way, most of the book was a good read. Zade is still brutal but that’s nothing new. Definitely pay attention to trigger warnings and read them beforehand because the book is heavy. Overall I just don't really think the good things that happened outweighed the bad things that ended up sticking with me and leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Holy fuck. When you thought the second installment couldn't get better than the first. THIS BOOK IS OUT OF THIS FUCKING WORLD. I literally read 90% in a day and I am SO FUCKING OBSESSED. The fact that Miss Carlton was able to give two different vibes in a duet shows you how FUCKING GOOD THIS BOOK IS. Not only does this book address important issues but it is also is HOT ASF. CHAPTER 40. CHAPTER 40!

Being able to see Addie succumb to Zade was the most fulfilling feeling ever. I am OBSESSED w them and this book was fucking next level. One of my top reads of the year already.

"Addie?"
"Yeah?"
"Run, little mouse."

This is my second time reading this book and honestly? I totally get why I fell in love with it the first time.

The second book is so much better than the first—it’s not even close. The first one felt more like a setup, mostly about Zade's chasing after Adeline (their connection was based in lust) But this book? This one had everything.

It dives deeper into the human/sex trafficking storyline—which I know can be triggering for some people but I personally found it intriguing. It made everything feel more real and emotional.

This book gave me all the feels. There’s emotion, passion, heartbreak, moments that made me laugh out loud, and others that hit hard. It’s messy in the best way. I cried, I laughed, I paused just to breathe—it was that good.

Honestly, this book is a wild ride and I loved every second of it.
I'm still waiting for a Rio book
