It’s written with very pretty words, but sometimes it just seems to go on for way too long.

Such an important book and an important topic. However, the execution was flawed and didn’t always work for me. Disappointing as I was so hopeful for the powerful potential of a YA novel taking on fascism and racism in America.

This fiction novel isn’t far from reality, but surely falls flat when executing the concept. Layla, despite being the revolutionary character, is so unlikable. The immature writing narrated a melodrama rather than a revolution.

My muslim self cringed every time she risked her life for a make out session with her jewish boyfriend.

What could be a powerful message, was hidden under Twilight-level writing.
