Fellow pop culture enthusiasts--I think you'll enjoy this breezy, read-in-one-sitting book!
Okay, so this is clearly supposed to be a Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce sort of thing, but I like to think of the baseball player as being more of a Justin Verlander (because Jimmy is way way way smarter than Travis Kelce) who married Kate Upton. Just sayin'.
This is really really really good. You're going to love it.

This is an easy read, but I was bored and I felt like the writing was somewhat lazy/uninspired.
I am also not a fan of insta-attraction so that's my own fault. I am just on a sports romance kick and wanted to give this one a try.
Thanks for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Cute, short, fun romance that’s basically Taylor Swift / Travis Kelce alt universe. Very surface level, but a good time.
Moderate: Sexual content, Car accident, Abandonment
(Actual: 2.75⭐, rounded up) Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher(s) for the advanced e-copy in exchange for an honest review &/or promotion.
I truly wanted to like this one SO BAD and I just..... ugh. I did not, I'm sorry. It wasn't so much that it was "bad" per se, but rather just.... meh? Underwhelming. While the premise/trope of a Celebrity x [Professional] Sports Player is certainly nothing new (and a trope I've honestly enjoyed in previous books I've read), HH seems to be very much inspired by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce— which would be *fine*.... if it weren't for the fact that it was so painfully obvious (changing the type of sport the MMC plays is simply not enough, okay??)

This thinly veiled Taylor Swift / Travis Kelve fanfic was truly awful. On top of further trying to humanize an already beloved mediocre white woman billionaire, the writing felt lazy and the pacing of the book overall just felt strange. Being that these protagonists were based on real people, they somehow fell incredibly flat and their overall dynamic felt like there was no substance. The best part about this book is how short it was because I truly could not have read more about these characters.
When spotting this novel on the “shelves” of NetGalley, I was immediately drawn to the cover and title: Heavy Hitter. I’ve been enjoying sports romance / romcoms lately and baseball seemed like the next sport to visit on my journey!
Heavy Hitter is a cute, fast-paced, dual POV romance novel; filled with snippets of pop superstardom and the MLB sports world. Lacey, an internationally famous musician, immediately hits it off with an MLB catcher, Jimmy, who happens to be nearing the end of his career. Will the two survive Lacey’s super fans, the media, and their own miscommunications?
This novel, and the main characters, seemed to give off the vibe of a very popular musician/athlete couple in the media. I enjoyed the similarities of this piece of fiction with the couple that are currently in the spotlight. The athlete X pop star mashup made for a fun to read plot with some added spice.
I felt the FMC, Lacey, came off a bit too conceited; at times she appeared to care more about her image and pointing out how much of a celebrity she is. Jimmy felt like a very likeable character, someone you couldn’t help but root for after his bout of self discovery.
If you’re looking for a light summer read with some sports spice, Heavy Hitter will certainly get the job done!
Thank you NetGalley and Harper Perennial for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Quick read but I didn’t really enjoy it. Both of the main characters were unlikeable and their relationship was mostly just them fighting and not ever really resolving things. It made it impossible as the reader to care if they were together or not. They seemed to have no chemistry and had no idea how to talk to each other without saying “fuck you.”
She cares too much about her image and how to make the relationship look good for the press and not about how he feels. And he can’t communicate, any time his ego gets hurt he insults her instead of dealing with his issues.
So many things that were brought up were left unresolved. Like him being unable to cope with the loss of his brother, his struggle to ever talk to his mom, her mom being an alcoholic, her strained friendship with her assistant/best friend, etc. Why bring all of that into the story at all if it never gets resolved or mentioned again?
The ending was very abrupt and didn’t feel like a good conclusion.

Nothing extraordinary or unpredictable 🙂. Engaging enough to listen to while passing time on a flight.
