I don't even know where to start with this review. I'm going to keep this quite short since I do plan on filming a booktalk for my booktube channel
edit:
my booktalk is up on my Youtube channel. part 1: https://youtu.be/OBFxg0aznsU & part 2: https://youtu.be/Y7oKbcw9jic

some general thoughts:
I found the plot of the book quite intriguing but a bit slow at times. Fortunately I didn't mind this as much because I did enjoy the characters and their interactions a lot.
I really liked most of the characters. Some of them (Julian, Mark) I absolutely loved. And even the ones I didn't quite like in the beginning (Cristina) I warmed up to by the end of the book.
As for ships: I AM SO CONFLICTED. I basically ship everything and everyone.
There were quite a few plot twists in this, that I did not expect at all. A lot of other things were predictable - but being a reader of Cassies's books for several years now, you get the jist of her stories and characters; there is a certain pattern she follows with most things.

As for a certain scene in about the middle of the book or a bit after, I don't quite remember, I am incredibly annoyed and angered about that one scene. With Julian and Emma. If you've read the book you'll probably know what scene I mean. I will discuss it further in my booktalk before I start ranting about it here. But I will say I didn't like it at all and I even had to stop reading after that because I was so angry.

I think that's all I have to say for now.

Cassandra Clare has done it again! I absolutely LOVE her world! I'm a huge fan of both series, and the fact that this book mixed both Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices made the fan girl in me jump at the chance to dive in!!! All my favorite characters made an appearance, and I loved every second of it!

You can expect the same Classic Cassie that we've seen in the other series...except this one is more tied to family. The Blackthorns are mentioned in previous books, but they were the focus in this one. Loved the added information in this one!

The ONLY thing I wasn't impressed by was the forbidden love story. I didn't get it. I was more grossed out by it than truly invested in it.

Either way...I will be reading the rest of the books. Because it's Cassandra Clare...come on!

May change this review in the next few days and make more detailed, when I feel like it.

Another great addition to the Shadowhunters-Universe.
Lots of fights and action, also quite a few twists, most I did not see coming, which is a good thing.
Romance - not too much, and with a conclusion which is my kind of romance.
A few characters from the Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices pop-up in this book, welcome additions to the main characters.
You could say it has a love-triangle, but I would not regard it as a love-triangle, rather a solution to a bad situation. "The law is hard, but it is the law". Whatever. In this case there is a real threat behind the Clave-law, but it is kept secret till near the end.
Page-turner. Highly recommended, as expected and I had it pre-ordered as soon as I could.
Will pre-order the next one, as soon as possible, which speaks for this book.

I loved the characters and the romance in this book. It was hard to put down the book and I didn't even notice it had so many pages. Can't wait for the next one.

Audiobook
The mystery of who killed Emma's parents
The mystery of the deaths of shadowhunters
The mystery of love
The mystery of a lost boy
The mystery of the one in charge
So many mysteries to answer. They just kept pilling up for the first 3/4 of the book. I expected them to crumble under the weight but no the characters stayed true and stayed strong. Fought and fought and suffered, till at last answers started reveling themselves and the answers were not easy to accept.
The stress of the last 1/4 of this story was crazy. Ms. Clare made sure that they were dragged through the mud and left caked and battered along a troubled river. Seriously Ms Clare, why did Emma have to do that at the end ? Troubled times. Yes, I loved it. Yes, I already downloaded book 2.

I listened to this on Audiobook, so I think that may have been part of my issue. I was easily distracted, and there were no clear signs when the POV would change, or when it was a flashback, so I would randomly get lost and it would take a little bit for me to figure put what was going on. Otherwise it was a decent story. I probably should have read a physical copy and would have enjoyed it more.
