I wasn't sure about this story when I started it; or to put it better I was sure, and the surety was that I wasn't liking it. But it built on itself pretty quickly, and the middle was excellent, compelling and compulsive writing that had by that point set up a world that it unveiled with precision. The last section I was and remain uncertain about: it is well written but I'm not sure if it's narratively important. I think it is set up for the next novella and for the bigger works that follow, but as I've not read though I don't know.
