I can't believe I was lucky enough to forget half the twists in the ending before rereading this one. What a great book. It's a slow burn, and there's a lot of different threads, but I'll be damned if I wasn't invested in the characters.

Brandon Sanderson should pay for my therapy.

The Stormlight Archive continues to be such a well written series with an epic heroes' journey that dares to ask questions like "isn't it fucked up to put some guy in a situation? Is God available for a fight in a Denny's parking lot at 3 a.m.? Crabs?" Though I wish this specific book had more Shallan and Adolin (weird considering Shallan is on the cover) and I found the pacing off.

This book fed us Kaladin stans though, he's my poor little meow meow and this book was HEAVILY focused on his arc, especially his trauma and depression. Because of the focus on Kal, Syl gets a significant focus in proximity. This book also worked on expanding on a lot of the world building, fleshing out the magic systems and the politics of this world. And like the other Stormlight books, this was compulsively readable despite its length.

And with that, I'm finally caught up with the Stormlight Archive. This series was a commitment that paid off. The books are large because they are jammed pack with fantasy of truly epic proportions.

This 4th book of a 5 book arc did a great job giving me just enough closure to not be infuriating but left enough loose ends to keep me excited for the 5th installment.
The character growth and events were engaging and thought provoking
