Hands down my favourite of Blyton’s books. I have no idea how many times I’ve read it now. It is exciting and fun every time.
My copy was my mum’s (and I think she got it second hand as is) and the sellotape on the spine was so old it dried up and fell off. We ended up having to get a second copy because Mum said it couldn’t come on holiday anymore or we’d lose pages.
My college lecturer asked what book would we bring to an desert island - the first book that came to mind. And this was mine. In the process of writing 250 words justifying my decision I ended up reading it again and it was just as exciting as I remember.
The rest of the series is okay (Spiggy Holes being very exciting too) but this stands apart. I think it’s the realistic element that isn’t in other of Blyton’s books. Reading this book - you feel that you could easily pack up the saucepan, hens and mending basket and take yourself off to an island.

I adore this book - I picked it up when I was ten years old and to this day I can remember the way it drew me in. Childrens writing at its finest.
