It’s giving extremely deranged version of James and the Giant Peach and I loved every page
My biggest fears are rats/mice & pregnancy. Never thought I'd ever see an author manage to combine those things into one scene. This was just as disturbing as people warned me it'd be, it made my stomach hurt, it made me scream/cringe/hyperventilate/gag/need a breather. But you bet it's 5 mf stars

felt the most heavy-handed out of all the larocca stories, but the little twists were good. definitely a weird little book, not my favorite of theirs but it’s good. definitely understood it more than you’ve lost a lot of blood
Okay I am going to say that I was pretty confused and wouldn't say that feeling ever fully went away and yet I think this was really well done. Very unsettling, interesting approach, and I really wish I got just a little more at the end. Something to really tie everything together. We have a girl who's father has just died in the middle of the war and her mother invites a stranger into their home to take care of them and things get really bazzar from there.
I hated/loved the bug aspect, and having that be a metaphor type thing for the crappy people that came into their lives.
I want to know if the sewage thing was real or similar to the whole bug thing.
I also want to know what actually happened when they turned on the mother and started to eat her and pull her apart. I'm assuming the eating was them taking from her, but the pulling her apart/killing her, did she really die.
The house gets raided by cops or something and its made clear that the house was filled with unsavory people, but what was the whole deal, what fully happened. Things got real weird and crazy at the end and I really want to know what the real version of all that stuff actually was.
Now I will admit that I read this like two months ago so I dont remember everything and might pick up some more answers on a second read but i do remember feeling like i wanted more of an explanation on how the perceived bug world related to the crappy real world she was living in.
