Eric LaRocca is necessary voice in this world and it’s never been more apparent than in We Can Never Leave This Place. A post-apocalyptic nightmare that tells the story of loss, grief, and trauma, and the total loss of control one feels during those times.

“I wanted to be the only one to hurt you”

Beautifully woven together, LaRocca has dissected trauma to all its horrific parts and spun a captivating story that somehow leaves us feeling hopeful. This is a different feeling atmosphere than LaRocca’s other works but it’s this exact kind of shift in story telling that legends are known for. And LaRocca is a legend.

I’ll definitely be preordering a copy when preorders go live.

HUGE thank you and all the love to the author for the chance to read and review this work before publication. I cannot thank you enough, what a trip ♥️

what in the- this entire book is like a surrealist painting. like i can't even describe the weirdness and feeling it evokes. if you're a fan of LaRocca's other books though, you'll enjoy this one!

Didn't hate it, didn't like it. Didn't know what was going on until the end which I appreciate.

This was my second time reading this book and my second time almost losing my lunch in the process. This book is WILD. I have read all of Eric LaRocca's books to date and this one just hits different. It is so disturbing and so gross, but somehow I still had a great time reading it. I feel like any mention of the plot is a spoiler so I won't give specifics of what I love, but I do really enjoy the fantasy element of this one.  The imagery in this book is something else. I don't see myself getting some of those images out of my head anytime soon.

We Can Never Leave This Place made me feel uneasy throughout my entire time with it. The imagery is stark and grotesque, and I constantly felt myself avoiding wanting to picture certain parts. There were a couple elements within that I found very hard to understand what was happening. It was not so much events occurring but parts of the house being described. I thought it was going to ruin things for me, but as the end unfolds, I realized that the story was a very different one than I originally thought. I mean that in a good way. The way LaRocca captures the terror of familial abuse and the way our brains process horrific events was great. This is definitely not a book for everyone, but it made me excited to read more of LaRocca's works.
