I love Eric LaRocca but this just was not my vibe. I felt so disconnected from this story and just did not like the direction it took. However, it is beautifully written and such a bizarre tale. Definitely worth checking out if you want something rather strange but it just wasn’t for me.

this is the traumatic fever dream of someone who could not confront the death of her parents. i think the sewage represented the tainted relationship between herself and her mother, as the fluid is practically impossible to purify at this point. her ‘confronting’ the conflict was opening the sewer pipe and letting the sewage take over the demons in her head (the insects). and that’s why the nightmare finally ended there. and i guess her walking into the real world that is flooded with sewage is just the reminder that this trauma will forever be implanted into her mind

this is a perfect balance of creepy and sad and gross and I thought this was going a metaphor route with everyone having their carnal animal counterpart, but it ended up being more messed up and sad than that, tying in so many little things throughout the story for the big conclusion, welcome back Eric

I loved this one!! So many metaphors for trauma and i wonder if there were even more I didn’t catch. This one will stay with me!
I know it’s a book but legit how the hell did no one die from infection with the sewage and their wounds? Also unclear if the mom was actually eating the dad but if so fr how did that baby survive??
