I actually loved this story. I loved seeing how everything came about and learning why Lucas is the way he is. It definitely has the humor you are used to reading from Rachel Van Dyken. It also has sweet aspects and times that you want to chunk your reading device.
I was not a fan of Lucas in the beginning, but after learning more and understanding him a little better, he really began to grow on me. I loved Avery in the beginning, but I was frustrated at the fact that she was so strung and had no trouble standing up for herself, yet she gave in so quickly to Lucas. Other than that, I loved everything about this story.
I will always read Rachel Van Dyken. She is definitely on my list for authors I will read whatever they right. I thought Cheater was a great story and I can't wait to read more from her.

I HATED Lucas Thorn...until I didn't.
Seeing the cover and synopsis of this book made me apprehensive. RVD assured readers this would not be a book about “cheating”, but for the first time ever I wasn’t thrilled to read a book from RVD. The beginning chapters did little to calm my apprehension. I found Lucas to be unlikable and a complete jerk. I had to rely on a fellow book friend and reviewer to get me through the early chapters. As much as Lucas annoyed me, I was immersed in the story and found it to be an addicting read.
It had been four years since I’d last seen her, but it felt like yesterday. She should have zero effect on me. And yet. She did.
RVD is one of the few authors that can pull off over the top comedy so effortlessly. I enjoyed their endless banter and silly antics from Avery and Lucas. From the first moment, there is undeniable chemistry despite their supposed disdain for each other. I wondered if these two would ever stop with their failed attempts at hating each other.
Hating him was difficult. Being attracted to him was inevitable.
It took me over the 30% mark to see Lucas in a different light. His character development is slow but entertaining. I enjoyed the wild and crazy ride and feel foolish for ever doubting RVD’s abilities. As with all her books, the supporting cast is entertaining and leaves interest for future books. This normally would have been a 3.5 Star read for me. Since my opinion of Lucas changed so drastically from the beginning, I feel it earns a 4 Star. I am excited for their story in the next installment since there were questions left unanswered about Thatch and Austin.
I recommend Cheater to anyone looking for a light romcom with a hate to love trope.

HOLY WOW! What did I just read?! I LOVED it every single word. I didn't expect I would laugh out loud (literally) several times! I swooned and could feel the connection between Thorn and Avery!!! O. M. G. I am just WOW....

This was a really cute friends to lovers story. Of course Lucas is insane and no man can get away with trying to live that life style. I mean come on woman are you that desperate?
The banter and whit thrown between Avery and Lucas is hilarious. Also I love Avery, if I had a daughter that’s probably how she would turn out.
Lucas’s parents remind me of the way I am with my boys, “grandchildren under construction”!!

Absolutely enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and sexy and such a light-hearted book with Friends to enemies to lovers story and with a really good sense of humor that had me laughing and smiling like a maniac in most of scenes and most of all I really loved their relationship and all those sweet past moments too. I always love and enjoy Rachel's writings and her stories so much. Can't wait to read more of her books.

I will be one hundred percent honest the title made me twitch. The blurb was intriguing but my disgust for that word made me hesitant. In the end my love for RVD made me do it and boy am I glad.
Society, and well me too, have a huge disdain for the word, the act, and the connotation. But to play devil's advocate...why?
Clearly some people don't or there wouldn't be any cheaters right?
I absolutely loved Cheater. Me, the girl who cringed in disgust at the title, I loved it. I, the serial monogamist with previous foray into naughty "two for Tuesdays", loved this book.

Let me start by saying this is a review I never wanted to have to write. I have been a huge fan of Rachel Van Dyken's for a very long time, and for the most part I love her books. But occasionally she writes some that just don't work for me, and unfortunately Cheater was one that didn't. I still love her and am a huge fan, this just wasn't the book for me.
On the night before his wedding Lucas Thorn was caught in an incident that changed his life and reputation forever. Branded a cheater after being caught in another woman's bed, Lucas decided to own his new reputation. Now he has a different girl for every day of the week (except Sundays of course!) and he doesn't do any kind of commitment. But when Avery Black goes to work for him, he finds himself wanting more. Avery hasn't been able to forgive Lucas though since he betrayed her family and ruined everything, but she quickly learns that she just might want more than revenge when it comes to Lucas.
I have to admit that a huge part of my issue here were the characters. They were immature and over the top, something that I have had problems with from RVD before. Sometimes her humor just doesn't click with me and gets a bit too much, and that was definitely the case here. While there were a few things I found funny, for the most part it just felt so forced and didn't do anything for me. Lucas also continued to act as though nothing had changed and I wasn't okay with that when there were feelings being developed. I understand his reputation was the main point of the book, but he continued to have all these girls that he was with right in front of Avery. Once feelings start to develop or return, that is the kind of thing that ruins a book for me...especially considering that she worked for him and she had to manage his "other" calendar. Because of all that it just made it hard to really believe in any kind of connection between these characters.
Besides the character issues, I felt like the story itself was just a bit too over the top and unbelievable as well. Like the humor, there were so many things that just didn't sit right for me and I found it hard to actually believe that they were possible. Lucas was engaged to his high school sweetheart, Kayla who also happened to be Avery's sister, and the night before he was to marry her he was found drunk in bed with their other sister Brooke all the while he hadn't actually loved Kayla but was in love with Avery...it just didn't work. I thought maybe I could find something that would change my mind about these two and their relationship as I read, but honestly I just didn't see it and couldn't get past all the issues I had with the story. For me, Cheater was too contrived and immature for me to ever get into and unfortunately I was disappointed with this one. It won't be the last I read from Rachel Van Dyken though as I do love a lot of her stories. If it sounds like one you might like, give it a go but be prepared for the over the top and immature characters and humor.

Cheater was one of those books that annoyed me in the beginning, became so freaking funny, and then made me fall in love with the two main characters. Lucas and Avery were a match made in heaven.. well, after all the shit sort of hit the fan.
Okay, so they sort of grew up together but he was dating one of her older sisters, Kayla. They ended up being engaged and then the day before the wedding.. well, he sleeps with her other older sister, Brooke. Meanwhile, he's always had this deep dark crush on Avery. Unfortunately, she was barely 18 at the time and she also had this massive crush on him.
Fate through them together, because she ends up interning at his job. Of course, they end up getting together. It starts off being fake.. but it eventually becomes real along the way. Their fights were adorable and I just loved Avery's obsession with food. It reminded me of me. They had amazing chemistry together and I was just waiting for them to finally acknowledge their love.
Eventually Lucas did a complete 180. He confessed his love towards her AND had to face all of his past friends with benefits and cancel on them - FOREVER. He was a one girl kind of guy now and I can't wait to see where life will take them. I'm hoping that the next book will have their wedding.. or a baby.. OR SOMETHING but I also can't wait to see what the hell happened between their best friends (who were also hooking up).

I will be honest an admit that I didn’t even glance at the blurb before I started to read the book because it’s being on of Rachel Van Dyken’s works was convincing enough for me. Unfortunately the plot didn’t really agree with me.
Just from the title you can guess pretty much what’s going to be the main focus of the story. Yes, cheating. I generally doesn’t have a problem with cheating in books it can make the story a bit more emotional (not so much in real life), on the other hand forgiving a cheater for stupid reasons is another thing. And really if you read a little of the story you realize that the cheating situation is not as serious in it as the blurb and the characters would suggest. However the whole story is written in a way that it makes you more aware of the cheating than necessary. There is too much focus on it with the constant mentions and reminders; makes the plot tense and I personally felt obligated to hate Lucas. So yeah the plot wasn’t the most appealing situation. Because of this it took me significantly longer to finish the book than I intended. Even so I find Rachel Van Dyken writing style really clean, crisp and entertaining. She has a couple of returning motives in her stories as it happens in this book too, but she is a really productive author so I think it’s understandable. What I really like about her that she creates unbelievable funny scenes in her books and generally her stories are dominated by humor. This is present in this story too, but not as successfully as some other books of hers. It just didn’t come through me at every opportunity.

“Great, Avery, I’ll just practice my zigzag.”
“… I saved your life with my kung fu.”
H“Admit it. The closest you’ve been to king fu is the movie Kung Fu Panda, which you probably watched because you’re convinced the panda is your spirit animal since it’s always eating.”
The story is told from dual point of view, Avery’s and Lucas’, the two main characters. Avery is really stoic, sarcastic and cynical and also pretty desperate at the beginning of the book. She is the constantly criticized little sister which made her a bit prickly. She is also have a mean, vindictive side and extremely jealous and let’s be honest meddlesome. So its maybe fate that she meets with Lucas, the last person she really wants to meet when she is at her most desperate predicament. Her being extremely stubborn and afraid to let him in again doesn’t help their situation one bit. Their unique humor and extreme attraction to each other is the one thing ease the situation.
“Family pressure combined with drunkenness and lying makes people do really stupid things. You know, brain cells die because of the…” He licked his lip. “A-alcohol.”
Lucas is an enigma for me. For one his idiotic mentality, insensitiveness and lifestyle doesn’t really agree with some of his actions. He wants somebody to go home too, whom he can enjoy his life outside of work, he lives kids and so and so but can’t commit to a relationship. He is lying to himself. Really when I was reading about him one thing jumped into my head. The Pygmalion effect, all his life everybody counted on him cheating, they were really waiting for the moment so he started to believe it about himself and maybe a bit out of spite he ‘accepted’ his fate.
This conversation almost made me abandoning the book:
“Until next Friday, Lucas Thorn.” She pulled out a compact and started to fix her face.
“I will put you down for every Friday.”
“Thank you.” She grinned. The snap of the compact shutting closed mad me jump in my seat. “For allowing me to take the open position.”
“You proved your worth!” He called back.
(This after a quickie in his office. It’s just disgusting and I can’t believe that any woman would act like this.)
The supportive characters mainly the families are quite crazy, kinda caricature-ish. They all represent some extreme personalities but this is something else that is specific to the author.
After the initial obstacles their love story is cute and funny, maybe a bit mushy too for a couple of chapters. It has it funny moments and drama too. I enjoyed it but not my favorite from Rachel Van Dyken at all. I just couldn’t get odds over the topic.
