This story is very unique, but it is difficult not to see the reflection of what is going on in the country now and what happens in this story. It’s a bit of a sad reminder that we have a long way to go where discrimination and racism are concerned.

I enjoyed The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride.   He is a gifted writer.  The story takes place in the 1930s.  It's about the Jewish and Black people who lived on Chicken Hill in Pottsvillie, PA.  It shows how their lives intertwined.  I enjoyed the characters, and my heart broke at the tradagey that happened to some, but not all.  It shows how one act of kindness can have lasting impact.
