This was another book that was pretty different to how I saw it happening. I loved the characters though and the journey they go on had me hooked. It shows true friendship and love, whilst giving us a good dose of fantasy and adventure. I'd definitely recommend this book. I read this as part of my 24 hour readathon. I read 9 books that day and this is definitely up there as one of my favourites out of those 9. I really enjoyed it.

The ending got me crying so if you like something like that this would be a good read

Words cannot describe how beautiful this book is - from the words themselves, to the cover, and the absolutely gorgeous pages.

This book is one of friendship and a bit of an adventure. It's mythical, magical, and mysterious. I cannot recommend this enough. It is just magnificent. It feels like the older sister of Abi Elphinstone's books which I just adore and I am so pleased that this has been chosen as the children's book of the month for May. It may be "kids" but it will definitely appeal to all ages!

This book has a lot of heart and is absolutely bursting with all the things I love most in a story - myth and magic, adventure, friendship. It was great to read a middle-grade novel with a heroine. Isabella and her best friend Lupe, the Governor's daughter, very much lead the story. For me, Lupe was actually the more interesting character. Isabella is brave and loyal, but Lupe is more conflicted - she lives with her father who is not very fair to the people of Gromera, yet has to attend school with their children. Because of this for me her growth during the story was more rewarding. However I really enjoyed all the characters and in particular the focus on friendship. A wonderful adventure story.

This book was enjoyable and had a shocking ending, making this book hard to categorise blurring the lines of MG and YA.

A lovely children's adventure. I liked the main (female!) character & will recommend this to the kids I teach. Thank you, Sarah for the gift of it! :)

I don't know if it's because I read it over multiple sessions but I thoroughly enjoyed the first 3/4s of this book but was a little disappointed by the last part. The climax felt a bit rushed and
having the "one year later" right after the action felt like a bit of a let down when i wanted to see what happened after the action

I thought the pacing, plot delivery and character development in the first half was great! I felt really involved in the journey and adventure.
Overall I did enjoy it and I'm most certainly not the target audience, though I do often favour children's/YA books.
