I knew this book would be sad and it was. The beginning was slow, but it picked up half way through and of course the end was devastating.
I've heard of John Aster from watching the movie and my slight obsession with Titanic as a teenager but I had never heard anything about his wife. It was a different perspective than I have read before. And poor Kiity, I almost wish she had stayed lost in Egypt.

3.5 ⭐️ what a beautifully written, heartbreaking historical fiction. This story is about Madeleine Astor, the second wife of Colonel Jack Astor. Their relationship is a scandal to high society because of his divorce and the large age gap, and then they finally have the opportunity to fully immerse in their newly married life as they find themselves onboard the Titanic. The first part of the story moved easily for me, but it lulled in the middle a bit until they were on Titanic. I thought Titanic moved at a good pace too, it didn’t dwell or linger at all.

I absolutely LOVED this story. The characters were well developed and I felt connected to them as I was reading. The story was so emotional even though I already knew the ending. My only complaint was that the ending felt rushed. From the moments of the funeral ceremony to the end, the story felt rushed and left me wanting more details of what happened in those final chapters!

I struggled for a part of this book .. the titanic section, but, really, it's hard to enjoy that miserable storyline.
